1995 Yamaha VMax
VBoost system for that extra boost from around 6000 revs. This system – Below 6,000rpm they feed each cylinder as normal, but at 6,000rpm things change. A solenoid moves a butterfly flap that effectively links up the pairs of carbs. So, rather than be fed fuel and air by one carb, each cylinder is fed by two, effectively doubling (well, actually a bit less) the amount of fuel dumped into the motor. More fuel equals more power. Simple. And gives the already torque laden ride a further kick up, immediately.
The 1198cc V4 engine is fearsome, but going over 6000 revs gives you the real measure of what brutal really is. Thanks to the V-Boost technology, all hell breaks loose as the variable intake system opens up and simulates supercharger operation.
On the Dyno, this example delivers 149hp and 197Nm torque on the back wheel. Achieved by Blue Printing the engine when re-built and gas flowing the head properly.
Its whole persona as a mean and moody bike starts to rub off on you as a rider and you feel tough riding it, especially when there are people watching. Despite its age the VMax still turns heads, even non-bikers appreciate its style. There is something basic about it with its metal and moving parts brazenly exposed to the world, not hidden apologetically by a fairing.
The original Muscle Bike.
This was the fastest bike from 0 – 100 km/h for a number of years, and ruled the robot to robot domain!
Absolute Original Mint Condition. This one has the updated 43mm forks not the wobbly original 40mm. You still have to loosely aim where you want to go, but it doesn’t give you that ass tightening wobble they all had in the first years of production!
Not a mark on this yellow Beastie!
